Sanitary Sewer Overflow on Bishop Lane in Brunswick – July 28, 2018
The Brunswick Glynn Joint Water & Sewer Commission NPDES Permit GA0025313, in accordance with the conditions of this permit and DNR Regulation 391-3-6-05 Emergency Actions, hereby make Public Notification of a wastewater spill that was reported 7/28/2018 at 3:00 PM due a materials failure in the force main piping.
Date of Spill: 7/28/2018
Time Reported: 3:00 p.m.
Location of Spill: A sanitary sewer pumping station (LS 4028) located at 100 Bishop Lane in Brunswick.
Cause of Spill: Malfunction of a gasket on the 16 inch bypass force main.
Estimated volume of discharge: 100,000 gallons
State Waters Discharged: Hog Crawl Creek and Hidden Lakes Drainage Lake
Corrective Action Taken: JWSC personnel bypassed the section of force main with the malfunctioning gasket which let the lift station run in normal operation until repair to the gasket could be made. The JWSC Laboratory will continue to test this area. The EPD was notified, local authorities and the Glynn County Health Department District Environmental Health Manager will also be notified.
Regulatory Compliance: Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified, along with local authorities and the Glynn County Health Department Coastal District Environmental Health Manager.
