Metering System Upgrade Project – Update 2

In early February 2021, the BGJWSC mobilized its meter installation contractor, M&E Construction, to install at or about 7,500 meters at various locations across Glynn County. Each of the 4 phases of this project will take 7 to 8 months to complete and will repeat again in similar batches until all 30,000 meters have been upgraded. This staggering of upgrades will help ensure that the batteries in the radio transmitters, which we expect to have a useful life of fifteen years, do not all fail during the same period in the future.

As of May 2nd, 2022, 10,600 meters have been installed, upgrading over 30% of our system. Each day, M&E Construction staff install an average of 60 residential meters. We have also seen the replacement of 322 large meters servicing multi-unit residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
